Walkin' Rollin' Logo

With less than a Month now until Children at Risk’s 1st Annual “Walking’ & Rockin’ for Risk” Fundraising Event on Sunday, April 26, we need to get Registration Info out ASAP! We had hoped to have an on-line Registration (and it may still happen), but as the Resources of a small, local Charity are less than National Charities – we are starting with just pen & paper/email Registrations… For a few years, we have noted the success of many local Walks for various causes – and the fact that a Walk can also include the entire family – where as our Dance was an age of majority Event. Ideally, we try NOT to use our Community that we support to be our Fundraisers too…but we could no longer get outside Patrons to support the Dance, so had to make a decision to cancel the Dance and plan some other event in its place… But we said – WAIT – we have many donors who will provide Prizes – we have our Band, RPM, who still want to support Children at Risk…so our Plan is to incorporate both RPM and a Silent Auction into the Walk – and what is an outdoor event without a BBQ??!!
We are fortunate that our Charity is located in a building with great amenities – so our Plan is to hold it on the Premises and near-by Park! As this is a new Event – and short time frame – we will be working on all the details feverishly between now and then BUT we really wanted our Members and Supporters to be aware NOW – and hopefully plan to join us! Many, many details are still to be worked out – but we have the following:

WHAT: 1st Annual “Walkin’ (& Rockin’) for Risk – a fundraising Walk, Auction and BBQ to raise funds for Children at Risk, Ottawa!
WHEN: Sunday, April 26, 2015, 1-4 PM in the afternoon
WHERE: Walk – Gil-O-Julien Park back field, Activities 235 Donald Street, in back of the building, under the covered structure
HOW: Registration details attached – but will include live band RPM, Silent Auction, launch of Spring Raffle Tickets, Family Activities, etc.
WHY: To help raise funds to finance Children at Risk supports like Camp Kaleidoscope, Saturday Fun Club, Family Fun Nights, Sibling Workshops, Typical Teen & Social Skill Groups – and More! Children at Risk does not receive government funding and assists over 400 Member Families in the local Ottawa Community – and what is RAISED HERE – STAYS HERE!

We hope that “Walkin’ (& Rockin’) for Risk will grow to be a huge success and raise valuable funding for Children at Risk’s Programs – so please mark this date on your Calendar and we will get more information on the Walk to you ASAP!

Lisa MacLeod

Please join us in welcoming Provincial Member of Parliament for Nepean-Carleton Lisa MacLeod as our “Honourary Walk Chair” for the 1st Annual “Walkin’ & Rockin’ for Risk”. Lisa is now in her 3rd full term as MPP for Nepean Carleton, having served her riding since 2006. As a Member who remains connected to her community, she has strongly advocated for her constituents, especially those with disabilities like Autism. Her energy, dedication and enthusiasm for family and politics make her a unique individual and Children at Risk is fortunate that she includes our Charity as one of her passions!

Eric The Intern

We have confirmed that “Eric The Intern” Bollman of Ottawa’s Rock Station CHEZ 106.1 “Doc & Woody Morning Show” will be our MC for the Walk!

Eric had joined our “Rockin’ for Risk” dance the past couple of years as our Master of Ceremonies and spoke passionately about his stepson, who is diagnosed within the Autism Spectrum Disorders. Eric brings his humour and own special style to any Event and we are excited that he can again champion Children at Risk!

Enbridge Gas Logo

We just received word today that Enbridge Gas Distribution will providing their Community BBQ services for our Walk!! In past years, Children at Risk was fortunate to have Enbridge support the Autism Community Annual Family Picnic, but a date conflict has made it not possible for a few years – so we are THRILLED to again receive this special gift!! It saves much time and expense in procuring and managing the BBQ (though we still have to get food! J).
